Fructose (fruit sugar) sounds good for your, certainly better than sucrose (table sugar). But the truth is, sucrose is metabolized in every cell of the body, while fructose must be broken down in the liver.
When consumed in large quantities, fructose may have negative effects on the liver. In fact, scientists at the University of Florida have discovered that patients with non-alcoholic liver disease consumed two to three times more fructose, usually in the form of high fructose corn syrup in sodas, than subjects without liver disease.
High fructose corn syrup is cheap to produce, sweet and easy to store and can be found in everything from bread and bacon to "natural" sodas. Read labels carefully and look for products without fructose.
