Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Signs You Shouldn't Ignore

By Andrew Stratton

Many people tend to ignore signs of pain or weakness because they are too busy or do not have good health insurance. However, there are some things that shouldn't be ignored, as they can be symptoms of bigger problems.

We use our hands every day for many different activities. Think about your day and how often you use them: typing, reading, showering, daily maintenance and chores, working and many other things occupy our hands.

While it is normal to sometimes experience some pain associated with activities that happen every day, if it gets to a point that it is unbearable or if other things show up, you could have carpal tunnel syndrome.

One common sign of this disorder is tingling and/or numbness. Many people experience this tingling while driving or holding a phone: while doing something where the hand is stationary. It is most commonly felt in the thumb and index fingers.

One of the most common ways this is dealt with is that people try to "shake out" the feeling to regain feeling in the affected appendage. If this stops working over time, it could mean that the problem is progressing.

Another sign is pain in the wrist. Typically the wrist is just the starting point and the pain will shoot into the fingers or up through the arm and maybe to the shoulder. The pain is most typically on the underside of the forearm. If you are experiencing this, especially in any regular sense, you need to see a doctor. This is another symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome.

One other very common symptom is feeling that you are getting weak or being unable to hold things when you should be able to. The disorder can weaken the hand without you realizing it and your grasp can become less strong than usual.

All of these symptoms point to carpal tunnel syndrome. Any one of them should have you at your doctor but if you are experiencing any of them in combination, it is definitely necessary to go.

Carpal tunnel syndrome, if left untreated, can render the hand useless. However, if it is caught and treated with therapy and a doctor's attentions, most of the damage can be reversed or lessened. This is not something that people want to experience, as the hands are so important in day to day use.

Regardless of your situation, if you are experiencing these symptoms, you need to get checked out so that if there is a problem, it can be solved in a timely manner.

Carpal tunnel syndrome can be painful, frustrating and frightening. If you pay attention to your body and get help when it is telling you something is wrong though, there is no reason that you cannot, through treatment, be working at full speed.

In Houston Carpal Tunnel is treated with the help of a simple surgery by detecting it on time giving you a pain free lifestyle and enabling you to do the simplest of activities without a flinch. To know more, visit http://www.cyfairhandandwrist.com
