Choosing Protein Powder

A standard protein powder added to your nutrition arsenal is a must and may be used on a ny nutritional plan designed for eigther muscle gains or weght loss. These powders contain few, if any carbs, and range from 20g-60g of protein per serving.

Protein powders are made from four basic sources: whey (from milk), egg, soy, and rice. Protein powders can also be a combination of one or more ingredients. These concentrated sources of protein are processed into the powdered form, to be reconstituted into liquid form as a protein shake when mixed with water, fruit juice, or milk.

The different forms of protein, such as concentrate, isolate, protein peptide or combination  thereof, allows for various rates of  digestion, from as quick as 15 minutes to as slow and long lasting as four to six hours.

Protein powder is meant to be taken everyday as a dietary supplement. Even if you aren't a bodybuilder, starting your day with a protein powder shake can provide nutritional benefits. While many nutritionists advise consuming protein throughout the day, a healthy boost of protein first thing in the morning can stabilize your blood sugar levels throughout the rest of the day.
