When you drink more than you should, you normally get a hangover the next day. Hangover is a very popular condition, especially for teenagers and the teenagers at heart. While the scientific world is still busy finding out the main cause of hangovers, people who have actually experienced them have found out a lot of cures. If you’re squinting while reading this with a lot of pounding going on in your head, here are some easy ways on how you can make hangover go away.
TIP #1 REHYDRATE
The first thing that you’d notice when you wake up with a hangover is that you’re thirsty. This is because alcohol causes dehydration, which in turn causes thirst (not to count the fluids you wasted throwing up last night). The easiest way to get rid of the unmanageable thirst is to drink a lot of ice- cold water. You can also take rehydrating drinks such as Gatorade which contains electrolytes to restore your body’s electrolyte balance.
TIP #2 SLEEP
Unless you need to rush to work or school, it’s best to sleep off hangover. Fatigue is one of the symptoms of hangover, and this happens because your body had to make up for all the lost vitamins and minerals that you lost when you drowned your system in alcohol. Just by sleeping, you give your system the chance to restore all the lost energy from the previous night.
TIP #3 EAT SOMETHING LIGHT
Headache is another symptom of hangover. This might have been caused by low sugar level, which usually happens when you drink alcohol. Since your stomach could also be sensitive from the drinking, it’s best to eat something light such as crackers or toast. By doing this, you get to raise your sugar level (getting rid of the headache) without upsetting your stomach.
TIP #4 TAKE A COLD SHOWER
Taking a shower is a popular hangover relief. The sudden splash of cold water on your body gives your system a jolt, which in turn makes it produce adrenalin. Adrenalin is known for spiking up the system. In this case, it raises your body’s tolerance for the hangover’s effect. While taking a shower will not get rid of the hangover, it’s a great way of making the headache and the nausea manageable.
TIP #5 EAT OR DRINK SOMETHING WARM
Warm soups and drinks make you sweat, which is a great way of getting rid of the toxins caused by alcohol. Tea and chicken soup are great for hangovers, but prevent from drinking coffee as caffeine can actually cause dehydration instead of rehydration.
