The High Line, New York’s most unique outdoor space, and Laughing Lotus, the city’s most dynamic yoga studio, have joined forces for one seriously elevated experience. Wednesdays, June 8 to August 31, from 7pm to 8pm join Laughing Lotus for FREE Lotus Flow Yoga in the Highline Park, located at 10th Avenue between 14th and 15th streets.
Laughing Lotus, the exuberant, playful, music-driven creation of Dana Flynn, the “Janis Joplin of Yoga” who’s known around the city and country as the “teacher’s teacher,” brings her inimitable yoga style to the High Line, New York City’s raised railway-turned- public park.
It’s a match made in the skies, as Laughing Lotus (now located in the Flatiron District) had its humble beginnings on a West Village rooftop. The year was 1999 and Dana Flynn, student of such legendary yogis as Sharon Gannon and Rodney Yee, was ready to show New York a different approach to practicing yoga. With a hearty crowd of diverse yogis, ready for anything come rain or shine, Dana stood atop a set of monkey bars and lead class after class on the path to movement and song as transformative medicine.
Now’s your chance to recapture those early days of Laughing Lotus with free summer yoga classes on the High Line. Imagine, practicing yoga as you float above the bustling and fashionable Meatpacking District, among the restored beauty of the High Line, watching the sun set over the Hudson. This is yoga the way it was meant to be done, Laughing Lotus-style.
Complimentary beverages for participants at each class will be provided by Kombucha Brooklyn (http://kombuchabrooklyn.com/), but please don’t forget to BYOB (Bring Your Own Mat)!
