Importance of proper sitting.

Years of improper sitting can lead to permanent disc degeneration. Eighty percent of Americans will have back pain at some point in their lives, and back injuries prove to be the top reason for missed work, according to the National Institute of Health.

Our spines are strong and resilient, but not impervious to the effects of slouching and improper sitting. When you hold any position for long periods of time your spine is gradually reshaped. Years of improper sitting can lead to disc degeneration which is permanent. However don’t despair, your mobility and comfort can be restored through improving your posture and proper sitting.

What not to do. Roll your shoulders inward, jut your head forward, round out your lower back, sink your chest.

What to do: Set your seat back to a nearly upright position and sit as far back into the seat as you can, keeping your rib cage and trunk upright and your head aligned directly above your shoulders. Expert also suggest lumbar support – usually a molded foam pad to promote the natural forward arch of the lower back, called lordosis.
