Soda and other calorie beverages have contributed to skyrocketing rates of obesity and diabetes.
But there’s a also evidence that drinking diet soda leads to weight gain.
Researcher suspect that tricking the brain – getting sweetness without the calories – makes you crave more sugar than ever. A medical study that was done at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, showed that people who drank diet soda gained weight and lots of it. In fact, the research found, "There was a 41 percent increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumed each day."
According to the researchers, the findings may suggest that artificial sweeteners lead to overeating by interfering with the body's ability to properly assess how many calories are consumed.
Switching to diet soda is recommended if, but only for a short perios and only if you consume large amounts of soft drinks and are planning to cut down and eventually eliminate consumption of soda completely. So, instead of diet soda, have more of water or an occasional fruit juice to prevent diet soda-weight gain.
