Two studies released this year add to the growing body of evidence that taking the omega-3s in fish oils may reduce chronic illness by decreasing inflammation.
In a study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, researchers followed more than 35,000 Washington State women between the ages of 50 and 76 for six years and found that those who took fish oils had a 32% reduced risk of breast cancer.
And a study from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences found that people with the highest intake of omega-3s from food or supplement had half the risk of developing colon cancer as those with lowest intake.
Previous research showed a reduced risk of developing advanced prostate cancer, even if a man was genetically predisposed to the disease.
