Labels lie. So do restaurant menus and nutritional postings you find in restaurants. That's according to a study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, which found that labels and menus under-counted calorie totals by an average of 18%.
In some cases, the foods had double the amount of calories listed. The study did not speculate on what caused the discrepancy. This is disturbing news to anybody who counts calories. The best advice we can give you is to stay vigilant and don't let faulty information destroy your diet.
Tip: You can also purchase a book, like Eat this not That to help you make better decisions on what you should eat when you are out.
