There are many tools that can be used to improve your ability to concentrate. During the meditation we can focus on color, mantra, breath or geometric illustration such as mandala. But one of the more popular elements that can improve our focus power is candle. Flame of the candle can be especially helpful in quieting a hectic mind. Just think of the trance like state you put yourself in whenever you sit and stare at a fireplace or campfire. The heat and movement of the flame offer a very specific, intense focal point and remind us of the natural power of the world and the force within us.

Meditation

Find a candle that inspires you. Preferably choose calming colors (blue, green, white). Place it on a low table about 3-6 feet in front of you. Sit cross-legged on the floor, keeping the candle at eye level Light the flame and relax your body. Pay attention to you breath. Try to make it calm and smooth. As you inhale, feel your abdomen expand and your chest rise; as you exhale feel your chest fall and your abdomen contract slightly. Empty your mind and gaze steadily at the candle flame as it burns.
