Any natural foodie would concur regarding the amazing benefits of turning into a Paleo eater.

The Process of Food Elimination

Like any typical diet, the focus in this diet is inspired by what our hunter-gatherer ancestors would eat during the Paleolithic era. Sounds simple, right? The approach is simple, innovative, but proves difficult with the prolific wide spread use of processed foods filled with unknown preservatives, chemicals, and ingredients.

Let’s explore the basics of what not to eat on this restrictive yet uplifting way of life. Any extreme diet such as this, calls for a life change. Don’t simply focus on moderation with certain foods, but you must cut out the crap.

For example, any food item coming from a box, labeled as processed, or grain heavy foods. The reliance of grains such as rice, pasta, carbs, and corn leads to a life of obesity and health problems that were not experienced during the Paleolithic era. Instead those humans live on a diet reliant on seasonal fruits, vegetables, and meat. The basic diet contained no hidden ingredients detrimental to health. Everything consumed was a product of the natural environment.

Say So Long to Grains, Sugar, Processed Foods

These are three of the major areas of elimination in this diet. Health professionals might claim that a number of health problems can be reduced or even eliminated by excluding sugar, grains and gluten.

When initially considering this drastic diet change, you can’t eliminate these major food groups or ingredients immediately. The best path to long term healthy success doesn’t simply include the right diet, but exercise and the right doctor too.

Burning Fat and Not Carbs

The majority of modern day diets rely on the consumption of carbohydrates. If drastically reduced or even eliminated, what will our bodies do for energy? Rather than burn carbs, the body burns stored fat for energy.

When consuming a large portion of carbs, this usually doesn’t curb a person’s appetite. Often carbs still leave a person hungry which could lead to unhealthy cravings and overeating.

When searching for carbs to eat, try to eat natural carbs found in vegetables, sweet potatoes, and other naturally grown food. Don’t give into the urge for processed carbs and grains. Even when you overeat natural veggies, the nutrients found in those items can’t hurt you or produce excess fat.

What Can You Eat?

The elimination of the sugar, processed, foods, grains, and reducing carbs greatly restricts a person’s diet. But don’t fear, there are still a ton of food options available. When following the guidelines of the diet, you’re encouraged to eat grass fed meat, free range chicken, wild caught fish, nuts, oils, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and anything natural.

Some Paleo enthusiasts claim to stay away from dairy, but even though our bodies weren’t technically built for long term dairy consumption, who can say no to a nice slice of extra sharp cheddar or fresh mozzarella?
